BWR Innovations Awarded $500k in Renewable Energy Grants from North Dakota Industrial Commission
BISMARCK, ND (July 30, 2025) – The North Dakota Industrial Commission announced the approval of $700,000 in matching grants through its Renewable Energy Program. The funding supports two innovative projects, with an award of $500,000 going to BWR Innovations, LLC to advance its hydrogen energy project.
The $500,000 grant was awarded to BWR Innovations, LLC for its “Improving Renewable Energy Resources with Hydrogen Offtake” project. The funding will support the company’s efforts to develop and utilize hydrogen energy solutions, contributing to North Dakota’s growing renewable energy sector.
“BWR Innovations is honored to receive a $500,000 grant from the North Dakota Industrial Commission and the Renewable Energy Program to launch the state’s first native hydrogen production and dispensing project,” said Erik Lind, Project Manager at BWR Innovations. “This initiative represents a significant first step in developing a clean hydrogen infrastructure across North Dakota, laying the groundwork for hydrogen-powered commercial trucking and private vehicles throughout the state and the Upper Midwest Region. By localizing hydrogen production here in North Dakota, we are adding a new dimension to the state’s already rich energy portfolio and contributing to the ‘all-of-the-above’ energy policy that has made North Dakota a national leader in the energy industry. This project not only expands North Dakota’s energy leadership but also positions the state at the forefront of the emerging hydrogen economy.”
The Renewable Energy Program, which promotes research and utilization of North Dakota’s renewable energy resources, is funded solely by oil and gas production tax revenue. Grant recipients are required to match the funds with private dollars.
The North Dakota Industrial Commission is comprised of Gov. Kelly Armstrong, Attorney General Drew Wrigley, and Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring.
In this grant round, a $200,000 grant was also awarded to the University of North Dakota for its “Producing Silicon Anode Materials for Li-ion Batteries” project.
